President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Sunday appointed Mohamed Ahmed Hussain as the Controller General of Immigration.
President Solih had presented Hussain with his letter of appointment at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday.
Hussain, a council member of the Jumhooree Party (JP) was appointed at State Ministerial level.
Also the leader of JP’s social media committee, Hussain was appointed after the resignation of previous Immigration Controller, Mohamed Anwar on Sunday.
While the President accepted Anwar’s resignation on Sunday, Anwar had been serving at the Immigration office since January 2015.
This comes at a time many have criticized Anwar having remained in the position even after the government changed in November.
Anwar had previously served government positions such as Commissioner General of customs as well as an official at the City Council.
