Officers of the Maldives Police Service have on Wednesday begun enforcing the ‘neighbourhood support officers’ program.

While the program was announced on Sunday and launched this Tuesday, officers have on Wednesday morning visited households and shops in their respective jurisdictions.

The police gave information to residents about the program and shared their contact details. The ‘Great Malé Area’ has been divided into eight zones, or ‘neighbourhoods’.

Capital city Malé has been divided into four neighbourhoods, Hulhumalé into three, and Vilimalé is one single neighbourhood.

The program is part of the new government’s pledges for its first 100 days in office.
