The newly established Maldives Third Way Democrats (MTD) has garnered 3,333 members and filed their names for registration at the Elections Commission.
The party registrations were taken to the commission’s headquarters in capital city Malé on Monday by party founder, Asif Ismail, a man known for his position at the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
The commission can only register parties with no less than 3,000 members. Asif was given permission to establish a party in late November.
MTD must now hold a general assembly to establish party guidelines and pass regulations. The commission will be monitoring this assembly.
