Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated that they are discussing whether to penalize its member, and former minister, Dr. Mohamed Shainee.
PPM’s deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla said this at a press conference on Friday evening.
Abdul Raheem said this after Shainee said that convicted former vice president Ahmed Adeeb’s version of what had happened in the presidential speedboat blast incident was “very plausible”.
Shainee’s meeting with Adeeb came less than 24 hours after Yameen gave him PPM’s ticket to contest in the parliament election without a primary.
Also, in an interview with Avas Online earlier on Friday, Shainee said he accepted money from Adeeb as a loan and that PPM’s leadership is targeting him for political reasons.
Responding to Shainee’s claim, Abdul Raheem said that PPM has not taken any step against Shainee but that they are discussing it.
He also claimed that the government is obstructing PPM members contesting in the parliament election.
