Parliament approves eight ambassador nominees
The Committee on National Security approved their names as well
Three additional names were forwarded at Wednesday's sitting

Parliament on Wednesday approved eight people nominated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to represent Maldives as ambassadors.

The names were proposed on the 10th of December and the Committee on National Security approved them on Wednesday.

The eight nominees approved by Parliament are:

  1. Hassan Sobir as Ambassador to Brussels, Belgium,
  2. Aishath Mohamed Didi as Ambassador to India,
  3. Dr. Abdulla Mausoom as Ambassador to Singapore,
  4. Ahmed Latheef as Ambassador to Germany,
  5. Farhanaz Faisal as Ambassador to the United Kingdom,
  6. Thilmeeza Hussain as Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative of the government of Maldives to the United Nations,
  7. Wisam Ali as Ambassador to Malaysia, and
  8. Umar Abdul Razzaq as Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

All eight nominees have experience in politics and diplomacy.

Three more nominees were submitted to be approved as ambassadors at Wednesday's sitting.

  1. Mohamed Jinah as Ambassador to Thailand,
  2. Mohamed Khaleel as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and
  3. Aishath Azeema as Ambassador to China.

Article 115 (l) of the Maldives Constitution gives the President power to “appoint members of diplomatic missions to foreign countries and international organizations in consultation with the People’s Majlis (Parliament)”.
