Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has said that the new government will not do anything to stifle local tourism.

In his trip to AA. Ukulhas with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday, Minister Waheed noted the rapid pace of local tourism development in the Maldives.

Giving a speech in Ukulhas, Minister Waheed said that one of the tasks in the new government’s 100 day’s agenda is to increase the Maldives’ marketing budget by three-fold, adding that the budget has now been increased with the full support of lawmakers on Monday.

He said that the time when tourism was run like a corner store is over and that the new government aims to introduce the Maldives as a global destination and market all parts of the country, and not just the capital city.
