A team of scuba divers submerged near the Outrigger Konotta Resort in Gaafu Dhaal atoll on Friday has been ensnared in tragedy as one of them passes away and another remains hospitalized. 

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that the deceased is a 37-year-old man, Ameeth Saeed. 24-year-old Ahmed Shakir who dived alongside Ameeth has been hospitalized and in 'critical' condition. 

31-year-old Mubarik Abdulla, who dived alongside remains safe, the police say. The three men were diving to catch bait fish in the area and dived 44-meters and remained under for over 35 minutes. 

The Maldives National Defence Force says that they recieved reports of the incident, through the Thinadhoo Police Station at about 05:15am on Friday.

The military said it dispatched officers from their Southern Command base, who reached the 'Hushiyaaru' vessel that the divers used at about 06:05am.
