Criticizing the lack of transparency in the prior government, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration will be open and transparent regarding its public finance.
At his first press conference since assuming office, Minister Ameer said that the previous administration had kept details of its finance secret in its five years.
At Monday’s press conference, Ameer said the Finance Ministry will be publicizing information on the government’s public finances each week via its website.
He also said that the public’s distrust of the government is largely due its failure to be transparent about its finances, particularly its loan agreements.
He added that the new administration will do whatever it takes to gain public trust and keep a close relationship with citizens.
