Parliament’s Committee on Oversight of the Government has on Monday approved all cabinet ministers appointed by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
All parliamentarians present at Monday’s committee sitting had voted in favor of the president’s cabinet of ministers.
This includes Home Minister Imran Abdulla, whose name was submitted for approval on Monday. While he was initially appointed with the rest of the ministers, he resigned from the post on Sunday, only to be reappointed later in the day.

Local media reports state that the committee had, prior to approving the ministers, verified whether any of the ministers had any pending cases at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Citing Vilufushi constituency MP Riyaz Rasheed, Sun Online reported that “documents prove that there are corruption cases against two ministers.” However, he did not disclose their identities.
All ministers are constitutionally required to be approved by parliament in order to permanently remain in their positions, as per the article 129(c) of the Constitution.
With a total of 20 cabinet ministers including the vice president and attorney general, President Solih’s cabinet is the largest in Maldives’ history.
While his cabinet comprises of members from the four coalition parties, they took oath of office the same day as the incumbent president.
