Former police intelligence chief superintendent Mohamed Hameed has said that he intends to join service in order to ‘restore public confidence’ in the Maldives Police Service.
Hameed announced this in a tweet after the Supreme Court reinstated him, having declared his earlier dismissal on grounds of leaking confidential information was unfair.
"Thank you all! With the Supreme Court’s vedict, I intend to wear the police uniform and regardless of what rank or position I hold, I will work hard to the best of my ability to restore public confidence in the police institution and improve policing overall", the tweet says.
In addition to his reinstatement, the Supreme Court has also ordered the police to compensate the former intelligence chief for pay and allowances he lost during the period of dismissal.
