MP Riyaz Rasheed hands over his membership application to Qasim Ibrahim
Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed has signed onto Jumhoree Party (JP).
MP Riyaz Rasheed, the deputy parliamentary group leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), joined JP at a ceremony on Thursday night.
Party leader Qasim Ibrahim accepted his membership application at the ceremony.
During the presidential campaign, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had urged Riyaz to join the opposition coalition.
Some other lawmakers have also joined JP recently including Manadhoo MP Umar Hussain, and Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth.
With the new MPs, JP now has the second largest parliamentary group.
