The Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) has denied prominent businessman Abdulla Jabir’s claim that he paid former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom MVR 29 million for the presidential campaign.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Jabir said that he was confident that his wife Dhiyana Saeed will be the next MP for Villingili/Kolamaafushi constituency representing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Jabir, who is also the special envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, said that Maumoon “will not be an obstacle” to this since he paid Maumoon MVR 29 million “for the campaign to win the Presidency for the MDP coalition.”
I am confident Dhiyana will be the next Member of Parliament for Vilingili/Kolamaafushi constituency representing MDP. Raees Maumoon will not be an obstacle in this journey. I paid 29 million Rufiyaa to Raees Maumoon for the campaign to win the Presidency for the MDP coalition.

Responding to this, MRM stated that Jabir did not give any money to Maumoon’s team that worked in President Solih’s campaign.
Jabir has been accused of lying by Maumoon supporters because of the controversial tweet.
