None of the ministers of former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration submitted their annual financial statements during the entire five years, says North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla.

At Tuesday’s parliament sitting, she also cited Auditor General Hassan Ziyath as saying that President Yameen had submitted his financial statement on his last day in office.

At the sitting, MP Eva said that her talks with the new finance minister, auditor general, and the governor of Maldives Monetary Authority have revealed that the previous administration’s financial transactions have been greatly hidden, which has hindered the new administration’s ability to find out details of the country’s debt and financial situation.

Eva expressed her hope that the new administration will submit their annual financial statements on time, highlighting President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the new finance minister’s vow to be transparent when it comes to Maldives’ financial situation.

Eva added that the state’s financial transactions should be open to public scrutiny, since it affects the wellbeing of citizens.
