Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s attorney Moosa Siraj has revealed that the first appeal hearing on Adeeb's 15-year prison conviction has been cancelled.
Siraj said that the hearing, set for Sunday morning, was cancelled as Adeeb was unable to attend due to his poor health.
Adeeb was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of attempting to assassinate former President Abdulla Yameen.
RaajjeMV understands that Adeeb had undergone a laser treatment to dissolve kidney stones.
Adeeb was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for emergency medical treatment on the 9th of November. Although the surgery turned out successful, the doctors advised him to undergo further treatment as he has developed an infection following the surgery, after a stent was placed inside his ureter. Doctors have since been giving him strong antibiotics for treatment. Following the operation to place the stent, Adeeb had been left in an unstable condition which requires him to be with his family where he will get the ideal care he needs.
Since then, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has on Thursday ordered the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) to facilitate the immediate transfer of the hospitalized former VP, to which MCS is yet to act on.
