Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has expressed interest in vying for a seat in parliament.
Speaking on VTV’s Mehmaan Saraa programme, Dr. Jameel said he is “extremely interested” in parliament.
Noting that there are many opportunities to contribute politically outside of government, Dr. Jameel said that in the near future he might be seen hard at work in such a political sector.
Dr. Jameel was the justice minister in President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration and the civil aviation minister in President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration. He was the home minister in President Mohamed Waheed’s administration before being appointed as vice president for President Abdulla Yameen.
Dr. Jameel has not officially confirmed whether he will contest in the parliament election.
