Dignitaries from 46 countries will attend President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration ceremony on Saturday evening, says the foreign ministry.

The ministry’s list of attendees shows names of 17 foreign dignitaries who have accepted their invitation.

The list includes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga, who arrived in Maldives on Thursday.

Those in the list also include foreign ambassadors and senior government officials of Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Morocco, the United States, China, Seychelles, Mauritius, and the United Arab Emirates.

Solih’s oath taking ceremony is set to begin at 5pm at the national stadium, infront of an audience of 12,000 people.

Military officers have been at the stadium since Friday, designing a stage that resembles the Maldives parliament.

Deputy speaker Moosa Manik was seen observing the work on Friday night.
