Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has arrived in Maldives for president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed greeted Chandrika at Velana International Airport upon her arrival on Friday.
Chandrika was one of the first from the international community to have expressed support of the Maldives opposition coalition, which helped elect Solih, after it was formed, saying that upholding democratic values is especially important for countries facing political discord such as Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Seychelles Secretary of State for Cabinet Affair Mohamed Afeef has also arrived in Maldives for Solih’s inauguration. Mohamed Afeef is the son of Abdulla Afeef, the exiled President of the short-lived United Suvadive Republic.
