Former Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has resigned from his position as chancellor at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).
Shaheem resigned from his position at the helm of the IUM on Thursday. The university has confirmed it to the press.
Shaheem took official leave from office earlier this year to contest in the presidential elections as incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s running mate.
Since then, deputy chancellor Aisha Khaleela Abdul Sattar has been handling running of the university.
Shaheem was appointed chancellor of the IUM in 2016, by President Yameen. This Thursday is the last working day before president-elect Ibrahim Solih takes his oath of office.
