Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is set to return from a medical checkup in Malaysia on Wednesday.
The Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) has confirmed that Maumoon will return to Maldives with his wife on Wednesday night.
Maumoon will be accompanied by his former personal assistant Ahmed Sofwan, who had been living abroad since May, after the police began a search for him in relation to an investigation involving Maumoon.
Maumoon travelled to Malaysia on October 23, a few days after the High Court overturned his one-year prison conviction over an obstruction charge for refusing to hand over his phone to the police as part of an investigation.
