New government to consist of 19 ministries
The new government will reduce the cost of political positions by 16 percent by reducing its numbers from 700 to 100
Four new ministries will be created and changes will be made to the names and mandates of other ministries

President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government will consist of 19 ministries.

Solih’s spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi said that while the number of ministries will increase, the new government will reduce the cost of political positions by 16 percent by reducing its numbers from 700 to 100.

She said that four new ministries will be created and changes will be made to the names and mandates of other ministries.

The four new ministries are: Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Heritage, and Ministry of Communication, Science, and Technology.

The five ministries with new mandates are: Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services, Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resource, and Agriculture, Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment.

The ministries to have their names changed are: Ministry of Defense and National Security to Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Finance and Treasury to Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Environment and Energy to Ministry of Environment.

The ministries to have no changes are: Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Economic Development, and the Attorney General’s Office.
