Housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that over 800 applicants from the interim list of the ‘Hiyaa’ social housing project in Hulhumale’ has been left out of the final list of flat recipients.
At a press conference on Monday, minister Muizzu said that they had evaluated over 3,000 complaints regarding the list and made the necessary amendments.
The minister said that the flats were distributed in a transparent manner and that the point system and required qualifications were publicized when the project was announced.
He said that the more-than 22,000 applications the ministry received were split into two categories. The first list consists of 7,000 flats to be ready by July 2019. The second list has 2,500 flats, for which the construction phase has not begun. The ‘Hiyaa’ project aims to give out flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Muizzu detailed that if a married couple are both in the list, only one of them would receive a flat, and that as a result 768 applicants were left out of the final list. He also said that 46 applicants that gave fraudulent information were also removed.
He added that recipients of the TATA flats in Gulhifalhu were not included in this list.
