Supreme Court has banned RaajjeTV from covering court hearings or matters of the judiciary.
The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) stated that RaajjeTV’s Fashaairu show aired content on Wednesday that defamed the courts and judges, especially the Supreme Court justices, and the Maldives judiciary.
DJA stated that the Supreme Court has ruled to ban RaajjeTV from covering court hearings and events held by judicial branches until the investigation on the private TV station concludes.

On the Fashaairu show on October 31, the hosts discussed how the judges in ancient city Sodom had given their verdicts, describing them as shameful. However, the hosts did not in anyway link their criticism of Sodom’s judiciary to the Maldives court judges.
DJA has also suspended MP Ali Hussain and former Attorney General Husnu Suood from practicing law for criticizing court verdicts.
