Must work to eliminate corruption and undue influence, says defence minister Adam Shareef.
Speaking at the ceremony held to mark the nation’s 30th Victory Day on Saturday night, Minister Shareef said that there are warning signs that the country’s nationalism could be jeopardized due to materialism and influence, adding that this is worrying.
Highlighting that acts of corruption have skyrocketed to worrying levels, he said that ‘this is not happening just today, it has been going on for a long time’.
The Minister further said that all state institutions, ordinary people, civil servants, private organizations, and particular parties need to work together to strengthen national integrity.
He emphasized that work must begin with renewed strength, to eliminate corruption and undue influence.
While reports of accusations against outgoing President Abdulla Yameen and his administration for various acts of corruption and graft have risen, this is the first time the Defense Minister has spoken in such a manner.
