Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s trip to the southernmost Addu City has been preponed to Tuesday.

Nasheed, who returned to Maldives on Thursday after nearly three years in exile, was originally scheduled to depart to Addu on Saturday, but was later postponed to October 9 (Friday) due to rough weather.

However, his Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) later told RaajjeMV that the visit has since been preponed to Tuesday. The weather is expected to clear up by then.

The trip is part of the celebration being held across the country, following the return of the former president.

While thousands gathered across the capital Malé on Thursday to welcome him, a similar reception is expected in Addu as well.

Nasheed, sentenced to 13 years in prison on March 2015, has been in exile since January 2016 after being granted political asylum in the United Kingdom during a medical trip there.
