Opposition aligned lawmaker says that Speaker Maseeh's misconduct will be investigated
The North-Kulhudhuffushi constituency representative said this while speaking at the People’s Majlis sitting to vote in Maseeh’s replacement

The parliamentary groups aligned with parties of the Joint Opposition will investigate former parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh’s misconduct while in office, says MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa.

The North-Kulhudhuffushi constituency representative said this while speaking at the People’s Majlis sitting to vote in Maseeh’s replacement, after he resigned ahead of voting on a motion to impeach him.

MP Ghafoor, a member of the Maldivian Democratic Party, said that Maseeh had effectively rendered the legislative power of state, useless.

Ghafoor also criticized Maseeh for resigning ahead of the vote, and described the resignation as a cowardly attempt to avoid facing the result of his actions.

Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim was elected as the parliament speaker on Thursday night. Qasim, the leader of the Joint Opposition’s Jumhooree Party, received 62 votes in his favor.
