Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla has visited his party office and met with members of its Mashura Majlis, an advisory committee to guide party leadership.
Sheikh Imran, who was released from prison after the Supreme Court on Thursday issued a stay order on his sentence, was welcomed by members of the party.
Thursday night’s visit is Sheikh Imran’s first to the office in three years. Imran was sentenced on terrorism charges for inciting violence against the government, over a speech he gave at an opposition rally.
Prior to visiting the office, Imran was seen at the celebratory rally held across capital city Malé, as thousands flocked to welcome former president Mohamed Nasheed, who was also sentenced on terror charges and is Imran’s partner as a leader of the Joint Opposition.
