Dhidhdhoo council decides to sue Finance Ministry for hindering their work
The decision was reached due to obstacles faced in the services of the council
The council has been suspended for their decisions on previous occasions as well
Council President Ali Hashim was even arrested on one occasion

The Council of Dhidhdhoo island in Haa Alif atoll, has decided to file suit against the Ministry of Finance and Treasury following obstructions faced by the council in fulfilling its duties.

The Council’s Vice President Mohamed Hashim said that although the council has sent many letters to relevant authorities as well as the Ministry on separate occasions within the past few years asking for approval to hire employees for four positions at the council, they are yet to receive a response to the letters.

Due to this, the council is facing many obstacles, delays and challenges in providing services to the island residents as mandated under article 24 of the Decentralization Act. The council also believes that this poses hindrance in the council’s responsibilities towards its people.

At a recent meeting, the council voted to sue the ministry and all relevant institutions involved. They also revealed that they will be doing all required work legally mandated, to appoint employees to the four posts at the council.

Dhidhdhoo council has been suspended on previous occasions as well over their decisions, with council President Ali Hashim even having being arrested.
