Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was unable to reach a decision regarding their stand on the items tabled for Sunday’s parliament sitting.
While the parliament is to convene on Sunday, for the first sitting of the final session of the year, the items on agenda include; confirming a date for President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inaugural ceremony, discussions on motions to repeal the anti-defamation and anti-defection bills, as well as motion to free former President Mohamed Nasheed.
PPM held a parliamentary group meeting on Saturday, and were expected to issue three-line whips prior to Sunday’s sitting.
However, they were unable to do so due to the low turnout.
Only 14 lawmakers, out of 36, attended Saturday’s meeting.
Speaking to the media afterwards, parliamentary group leader and Villimalé constituency MP stated that they will reach a decision on the matter at a meeting held at 12:30pm on Sunday.
