Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s CEO Ahmed Bunyamin receives more than MVR 100,000 in monthly salary and allowance.
RaajjeMV understands that Bunyamin takes home MVR 102,000 every month, which is more than any other government employee.
While Bunyamin’s salary is higher than even the President’s, the amount had been proposed to parliament by President Abdulla Yameen.
RaajjeMV understands that Bunyamin has taken an extended leave and travelled to Malaysia on October 22, at a time when HDC became the target of public outrage after the corporation was found to have contributed money and resources to President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign.
A senior HDC employee told RaajjeMV that they had contributed MVR 30 million to President Yameen’s failed re-election bid, which is now being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Auditor General.
RaajjeMV has been unable to contact Bunyamin, who has deactivated his Viber and WhatsApp account.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has investigated government-affiliated companies over the exorbitant salaries of senior employees including Mahudhee Imad, the former COO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). Mahudhee was dismissed due to the controversy over his MVR 132,000 monthly salary.
