A barge near Thilafushi caught on fire on Friday morning.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) stated that they received report of the incident at 8am.

The MNDF fire team controlled the fire at 2:35pm.

MNDF stated that it had taken them some time to control the fire because of the large amounts of ammonia gas on the 320-foot barge.

“Sun Tuna” barge is mainly used to gut fish and give out ice to fishing boats. The 20 crewmen on board when the fire incident occurred were rescued and carried off by a police speedboat.
