Housing Development Corporation (HDC) employees have been ordered not to work overtime.

In a memo signed by HDC’s managing director Ahmed Nasif, the employees were told that their overtime allowance have been removed due to budget issues.

The memo stated that employees need to go through their supervisor to receive permission from HR if they were required to work overtime to complete a project.

It stated that the working schedule of employees working in shifts have not changed.

Employees have also been urged not to work past 6pm or on government holidays.

News of budget issues comes at a time when an HDC employee revealed that the corporation had spent over MVR 30 million on President Abdulla Yameen’s election campaign.

The Auditor General’s office is preparing to audit HDC, which has been marred by numerous allegations of corruption.
