Supreme Court schedules appeal hearings regarding removal of MPs Saudhulla, Ilham

The Supreme Court has ruled to re-seat some of those MPs

The Supreme Court has scheduled appeal hearings for Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed and North-Thinadhoo MP Saudhulla Hilmy regarding their removal from parliament.

The lawmakers filed an appeal to nullify the Elections Commission (EC)’s decision a year ago, however the Supreme Court scheduled the first hearings on Tuesday at 10am for MP Ilham and 1pm for MP Saudhulla.

The Elections Commission declared the removal of 12 parliamentarians.

Out of those, the Supreme Court has ruled to re-seat Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Villingilli MP Saud Hussain, Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth, and Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef.

The apex court has concluded appeal hearings of South-Thinadhoo Abdulla Ahmed, and South-Mahchangolhi MP Abdulla Sinan and will give its verdict next.

The rest of the unseated lawmakers are Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa, Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Abdulla, North-Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah, and Hanimaadhoo MP Hussain Shahudee.
