President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vowed to nullify the Anti-Defamation Act within the first 100 days of his administration.

Speaking on SanguTV on Monday, the president-elect vowed to eliminate the numerous obstacles faced by journalists.

Solih described the media as the ‘heartbeat’ of democracy and highlighted the importance of the government allowing an environment where journalists can fulfill its responsibility of disclosing unbiased information to the public.

During Solih’s visit to RaajjeTV on Thursday, he said that he has personally seen the dangers faced by journalists and that it was his hope to see complete journalistic freedom in the country.

This was his first visit to a news station since being elected and while talking with the RaajjeTV staff, he said that, after he heard the election result, he wanted to meet with them first since his favorite channel is RaajjeTV.
