Elections Commission has decided to impose an MVR 75,000 fine on the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Commission president Ahmed Shareef announced the decision to fine the party at a press conference held on Monday, for the various allegations imposed on the integrity of Commission members at PPM rallies.
The party has held a series of protests in capital Malé since early October, accusing the Elections Commission of vote rigging.
Outgoing President Abdulla Yameen, who had initially conceded defeat, attended the first such rally and called on all to continue to protest until they get answers.
The Commission has since filed complaints at relevant institutions, including the Maldives Police Service as well as the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, to take measures against those stations airing these accusations.
