President Yameen is caught in a trap of his own making: MP Mohamed
'Citizens now know who he is'
'It was his impotence that he could not understand the citizens'
MP Mohamed was one of the 12 unseated lawmakers

Outgoing President Abdulla Yameen has caught himself in a trap of his own making, says Member of Parliament for Ihavandhoo constituency, Mohamed Abdulla.

MP Mohamed, who was unlawfully unseated by the Elections Commission under floor-crossing, made this assertion while speaking on a live program on RaajjeTV on Saturday night. As such, citing President’s Yameen’s farewell address to the citizens in which he stated that the one thing he could not understand was the citizens thinking, the lawmaker said that this assertion by the outgoing President gives a very clear message.

Mohamed, who used to work in the Maldives film industry before his political career, stated that the citizens have understood him well, and that him not having been able to understand the citizens is his own incapability. The lawmaker said that his inability to understand the citizens is what led to his defeat in the Presidential Election held in September.

“He may have been under the impression that he will get his way in the election because of his undying trust for those close to him. Some people used to say back then that President Yameen would take the oath of office. I often think of what a big offense that is, the statement. That Solih will win the election but Yameen will be sworn-in. Maybe this is what he means when he says he couldn’t understand the citizens” said the lawmaker.

MP Mohamed went on to state that state officials were under the impression that everything could be done under corrupt practices.

“President Yameen has found himself caught in a trap of his own making” he added.
