The audit office has stated that it is evaluating the petition from employees of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The audit office states that it has received the petition with signatures from senior HDC officials and that its executive board has decided to evaluate it.
The petition has signatures of a total of 170 HDC workers including that of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ali Shareef, as well as legal and planning directors, civil engineers and many other director-level employees.
The petitioners are against the government’s decision to sell 400 plots of land in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
The petitioners are concerned that the government’s current procedures in selling the plots of land will defeat the purpose of it being used for housing to those most in need and instead be used for businesses and other purposes and has the potential to inflict irrecoverable damage to HDC.
