The High Court has concluded the appeal hearings on former ADh. Maamigili Magistrate court judge Ahmed Nihan, who is serving a prison sentence for attempting to arrest President Abdulla Yameen.
At the High Court hearing on Monday, the presiding judge asked questions regarding the procedures behind Nihan’s order to arrest the President and his subsequent charge.
Nihan was found guilty and issued a 17-year prison sentence in June 2016.
Former Prosecutor Generla Muhthaz Muhsin, who is also serving 17 years over the same case, has also filed an appeal but the High Court has not scheduled any hearings.
Muhthaz and Nihan are currently on trial for additional charges. However, the court on Sunday nullified the decision to keep them in remand for the rest of their trial.
Nihan is currently on trial on charges related to abusing one’s position.
