Yet to reach a decision on the procedure of issuing the 400 plots of land from Hulhumale': HDC
ACC had warned to block the state from issuing 400 plots of land
HDC was contracted with the housing project on the 11th of October
'There is no equality in giving opportunities for form submissions'

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed that they are yet to reach a decision on the procedure of issuing the 400 plots of land from capital city Male’s suburban extension Hulhumale’s developing ‘Phase two” contracted to the corporation by the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

Media official at the HDC told RaajjeMV that they had begun discussions with the ministry regarding the issuance of token numbers to issue and accept forms since the corporation was tasked with the project.

“We are yet to reach a decision on the procedure. We will share details and relevant information as soon as a decision is reached” said the media official.

While the HDC has made this announcement, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives had begun investigations into the reports of alleged corruption in the much-disputed project, after blocking the housing ministry from selling the 400 plots of land, that come with a price tag of MVR 400,000 each.

The commission had ordered the ministry to begin issuing plots of land anew, with a few amendments made to the procedure. However, the ministry had begun issuing and accepting forms on the 09th of October, without paying heed to the ACC’s orders to bring amendments to their procedures.

Following this, ACC had on the 11th of October, warned the ministry of ending the project through a court order after having declared that the ministry is carrying out the allocation of plots against ACC’s order.

Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had earlier tasked the entire project to HDC, including the acceptance of payments and the draw to select recipients. Before having tasked the HDC with the project, the ministry had received over 5,000 forms none of which the minister stated, will be cancelled.
