Elections Commission (EC)’s secretary general Solah Rasheed has received death threats.
This has been confirmed by the commission’s spokesperson Ahmed Akram.
RaajjeMV understands that he was threatened by three masked men in Male’ late Monday night.
Secretary general Solah had announced the final results of the September 23 presidential election.
The results confirmed that the opposition coalition’s candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won with 58.4% against President Abdulla Yameen of the ruling party.
Members of the ruling party protested on Monday night over their concerns regarding the result. During the protest, President Yameen said that a leaked audio clip showed that the commission was influenced during the elections.
President Yameen also said that it was not enough that commission members make a statement and that they have to come forward and answer to the people. He warned that they will continue to protest until they receive straight answers from the commission.
