Hassan Latheef, chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has said that the party will not honour any deals made with the government during the ongoing interim period.
Speaking at the party’s national assembly meeting on Tuesday night, Latheef said he encourages the public to refrain from making any deals with the current administration, whether for commercial or employment purposes.
“Many jobs are being given, many agreements are being finalized. In a government that includes MDP, we will not honour any such deals”, Latheef said.
Referring to allegations that state offices are destroying evidence and shredding documents that could implicate the current administration, Latheef said that police should address the issue.
Speaking at the assembly meeting, party member Ilyas Labeeb also called on the police and civil service employees to fight the issue.
MDP’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won the presidential elections held in the Maldives this Sunday, with the aid of its coalition partners.
