Authorities have on Tuesday released prominent religious scholar, Sheikh Ilyas Hussain’s passport.
Authorities had withheld the Sheikh’s passport on the 22nd of September under a court order issued from Hithadhoo Magistrate Court. His passport was withheld as he arrived at the airport to depart to Malaysia.
Earlier in September, Ilyas was summoned over ‘lies’ made regarding the murder of the late Dr. Afrasheem Ali which he was accused of spreading to create disorder.
Ilyas is known as a vocal critic of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen, who lost the Presidential Election on Sunday, to Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
