Acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz has met with president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Asst. CP Nawaz had paid the visit following Solih’s momentous win in the Presidential Election held on Sunday. Solih’s spokesperson and Member of Parliament for north-Mahchangoalhi constituency, Mariya Ahmed Didi had revealed that Chief of Defense Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam is also scheduled to meet with Solih in the near future.

Mariya had however, not revealed a reason behind General Shiyam’s delay in meeting with the new president-elect. Mariya added that leaders of several institutions had met with self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed when he had been elected as President in the 2008 Presidential Election.

While ACP Nawaz had paid the courtesy visit to Solih, incumbent President Abdulla Yameen had met with Solih on Monday as well.

The meeting took place in the President’s Office.

The results on Sunday showed that Solih won with 58 percent, leading the votes with 134,616 votes which is the highest any presidential candidate has received in a presidential candidate in the country. President Yameen came in second with 96,132 votes. Once in office, he will become the first Maldives President that is not native to the capital city, Male’.
