Indian Foreign Secretary calls on the President
The Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen, on Thursday, at the President’s Office.
President’s Office had not divulge details of the meeting. Jaishankar had also met Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim.
India had not released a statement on Jaishankar’s visit to the Maldives. However, Foreign Ministry of the Maldives had said this was an official visit.
The sudden visit comes as the political situation in the country worsens, with more charges levied against key opposition figures on Wednesday.
