Military chief commends security forces for keeping peace during ballots

Major General Ahmed Shiyam, the chief of defence, has commended officers of the Maldives National Defence Force for keeping peace during Sunday’s ballots.
In a statement on Monday, Major General Shiyam said that his officers had prepared vehemently for the ballots and its peaceful proceeding is the result of this.
Shiyam further encouraged officers to remain at the service of the Maldivian people during the interim period and in the future.
The Elections Commission has said that Sunday’s voting concluded with little complaints. The Human Rights Commission also said that ballots were decidedly free and fair.
