The Maldives Broadcasting Commission has threatened to penalize broadcasters that air content they deem to be unproven.

The commission said in a statement late Saturday that they have found some broadcaters to be airing such content, and content that has to do with presidential candidates.

The commission’s statement asks all broadcasters to abide by the Anti-Defamation and Freedom of Speech Act and broadcasting laws and the commission’s code of conduct.
