Jailed ex-VP's lawyer arrested over statements revealing Yameen's alleged sorcery

Jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s defense lawyer, Moosa Siraj has been arrested.

He was arrested under a court order on Thursday night.

Siraj published a number of statements from his most high-profile client last week, with various allegations against incumbent President Abdulla Yameen including sorcery.

While Siraj was arrested over these statements, his arrest order accuses him of spreading ‘fake news’ regarding state institutions and using ‘vulgar’ language in said statements.

Following the release of the statements, authorities blocked Adeeb and some other political detainees from meeting with lawyers.

While Siraj’s arrest order is valid for a period of 72 hours from the time of issuance, photos circulating on social media shows that it is to expire at 11:30pm on Thursday.
