The Elections Commission has begun sending ballot papers to the outlying atolls.

Speaking to the media, commission member and spokesperson Ahmed Akram said that ballot papers along with all the necessary equipment for election day are being sent to the atolls and that they will have completed sending them to all the outlying atolls with polling stations within the next two to three day.

Akram revealed that the equipment are now being kept in the atoll councils and that the distribution of ballot boxes and papers and equipment to the islands will begin on the 20th of September.

An official of the commission along with an officer of the Police Service will be present when the distribution of ballot boxes and papers begins. Akram further revealed that ballot papers are yet to be sent to other countries with polling stations.

While the ballot papers have been printed and the commission has begun sending them to outlying atolls, the commission assures that details of the ballot paper will be revealed as stated under the law.

262,135 Maldivians are eligible to vote in the presidential election on Sunday and the commission has decided to place 472 ballot boxes across the nation.
