Complaints surface over PPM neglecting those that traveled to attend mass rally

Despite assurances that those that travel to the capital to attend the ruling party's mass rally will be 'taken care of', reports indicate otherwise.

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is to hold its mass rally, ahead of September's ballots, on Tuesday night. RaajjeMV understands that those that travel to Malé City from outlying islands are being promised MVR 1,000.

However, there have since been complaints regarding the 'lack of preparations' for them.

According to some complaints in a Viber group belonging to the party's Thimarafushi island branch, they have been unable to find accommodation due to PPM's failure to provide them with the promised amount. They noted that they have been 'left starving'.

Noting that most of those that travel to attend the rally do not have a place to stay in Malé, they emphasized that the reason they traveled is because they were assured that basic necessities were 'covered'.

Furthermore, they noted that those tasked with managing this had gone 'missing' after informing them that the funds have been received.

While RaajjeMV understands that the promised MVR 1,000 is for a two-night stay in Malé and food, the daily rate for a room in the congested capital is MVR 400.

On Monday, PPM's senior officials said that they expect 20,000 individuals to attend the gathering at the Maafannu Stadium.'

Mocking opposition parties for 'failing' to take care of those that travel to attend their rallies in the capital, PPM's parliamentary leader has on multiple occasions claimed that those that arrive in Malé to attend their rallies 'will not be left on the streets'.
