Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth has said that President Abdulla Yameen has neglected the officers of the police service and the defense force.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the lawmaker said that President Yameen did not make any effort to provide housing for police and military officers during his entire five-year term.

MP Ameeth said that the development of apartments for officers began in 2014 after officers made down payments of MVR 91,200 but that the project has been at a standstill.

He highlighted that Adam Shareef, who became defense minister in 2016, had promised to give the apartments to officers later that year, but that the construction of the flats has stalled due to financial issues with the contractors.

Ameeth said that a government led by the Joint Opposition will complete the flats and give them to the officers in its first year and urged them not to join the political campaigns being held by a few inside the security forces.
