Joint Opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the state is wasting the money it receives.

Speaking at a campaign event in HA. Thuraakunu on Wednesday, candidate Solih said that the state’s waste of money has resulted in some islands still not having access to basic services.

“The problem is that the government is using the money for useless projects. The problem is doing the work with inflated costs.”

Solih said that incidences of corruption surface even when establishing sewerage systems and that the cost of a sewerage system project at the very least rises to MVR 3 million.

He said that all the islands would already have sewerage systems if it were not for the waste of money.

He vowed that a government led by the opposition coalition parties will provide basic services to all islands and not let corruption leak into their work. He added that his administration will also focus on providing housing.
